The ignition lead carrier on every Mk2 Golf 16v sits on top of the cam cover and routes the four HT leads neatly from the distributor across to the spark plug wells. Thirty-odd years of under-bonnet heat warp the plastic, crack the mounting tabs, and leave the leads flopping loose across a hot cam cover. VW stopped making them years ago.

We reproduce them in-house to the factory 053 905 487 A pattern — correct wall thicknesses, correct trough spacing, correct mounting-tab geometry so it lines up with the original camcover bosses first time.

Why they fail

Direct heat soak from the cam cover plus UV on the exposed top surface ages the original ABS. The first symptoms are white stress lines along the lead troughs, then hairline cracks at the mounting tabs. Once the carrier lets go, the HT leads drape directly onto the cam cover — arcing and intermittent misfires follow.
